My Journey of Resilience
My name is Sawera Gull. At eighteen, while most of my peers are simply focused on their studies, I am navigating a life defined by extraordinary challenges and an unbreakable will. As a second-year student in Pakistan, I belong to a hardworking middle-class family where every day is a lesson in survival and sacrifice.
I live with Factor XIII Deficiency, an exceptionally rare bleeding disorder that turns every day into a silent battle. My struggle is compounded by a harsh reality: the specific Factor XIII concentrate I need is unavailable in my country. My only lifeline is Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), a treatment that is as demanding as the condition itself. Furthermore, our journey is made heavier by severe financial constraints that test our resolve at every turn.
The weight of responsibility fell on my shoulders early. Both of my parents are battling their own wars—my father is a kidney patient, and my mother is a heart patient. In our household, strength is not an option; it is a necessity.
Despite the physical toll of my illness and the emotional weight of my family’s health, I refuse to falter. I pursue my education with unyielding determination. I do not view my circumstances as a cage, but as a catalyst. I believe that education is the ultimate bridge that will carry my family and me from the depths of struggle to the heights of a better, more secure future.
I do not ask for pity, for I am not a victim of my circumstances. I am a warrior. I choose to fight my disease with the same intensity with which I pursue my dreams. Every day, I choose hope over despair and focus over fear.
My Message to the World
”Struggle is not the end of a story; it is the forge where greatness is shaped. No matter how rare your condition or how heavy your burden, never let your circumstances silence your ambition. I am living proof that while my blood may struggle to clot, my spirit will never break. One day, my scars will be the evidence of my success
