I returned to my former primary school where I was a pupil 30 years ago, I was the only pupil there with a bleeding disorder… 30 years on, my 9 year old daughter is a pupil there again the only child with a bleeding disorder. I felt it was important not only for my daughter but the other children too for me to hold a whole school assembly to help raise awareness of Haemophilia and the impact of having a bleeding disorder on our lives. Hopefully I have now reached out to another 360 children that now have a slight understanding of Haemophilia and an insight into my daughters bleeding condition, my daughter wrote and confidently read out a little poem about her condition which I hope in turn has empowered her somewhat in believing that being a little different to her peers is a good thing.
